What Medical supplies do you take on a trip?
This isn't rocket science, if you are going touring on your bike you must carry the basics to give yourself a chance.
True a lot depends on where you are going and how long for, but for any trip abroad ALWAYS carry a basic first aid kit, EACH.
Check out which countries say you have to have a first aid kit, and these are per person not carried by the group leader or back up vehicle. Don't go down to to your local newsagent and buy a green bag with a white cross on and expect it to give you anything more than a plaster.
There are some good sites out there with some decent first aid kits made to measure or if you prefer buy the comtents yourself to suit the sort of trip you are going on. Don't assume you will find a doctor or Superdrug round the next corner and be able to walk in and get anything you want.
Things to consider
If you are going on an organised tour with a back up vehicle or designated stops make sure they have a qualified first aid person with the team and plenty of first aid essentials either on the van or at each stop. The more remote you are traveling, then the more you should take, or plans should be in existance which would mean help can be called at a moments notice.
The biggest problem with first aid is we assume everything will be alright, lets face it the boxes take up loads of room and you always come back having never used anything except the headache tablets. Well thats good, its called insurance and we all know how we would like to forget about those payments, but come the crunch, its generally money well spent.
Personal First Aid
Dont leave it to others, think about yourself and pack the essentials you will need for everyday little problems and minor scrapes with the road or a tin opener.
1. Tweezers and Scissors which should be strong enough to cut through leather is needed.
2. A selection of plasters, don't bother with small ones.
3. Powder Free Vinyl Gloves.
4. Sterile Pads, in a bad situation you can never have enough.
5. Eye wash pods or water for first aid purposes, distilled or filltered, but any is better than none.
6. Antiseptic Cream and wipes.
7. Paracetamol and Asprin.
8. Saftey pins and Duck tape.
9. Wound Closure Strips.
10. Foil Blanket (Depends on Destination).
11. Triangular Bandage.
12. Elastic adhesive bandage.
